wordpress 6.1.1 update | what is a contributor in WordPress

WordPress 6.1.1 now available

November 16, 2022

Update WordPress 6.1.1 is now available

Exactly two weeks after releasing WordPress 6.1 (Codename Misha) there is now a minor update release available: WordPress 6.1.1!

This minor release features 29 bug fixes in Core and 21 bug fixes for the block editor.

WordPress 6.1.1 is a short-cycle maintenance release.

Why minor updates are important

Minor updates may not receive the same level of attention as major releases, but they are equally important (if not more so) for businesses on a smaller scale. This is due to the fact that even relatively minor updates can address problems that could render businesses and their websites inoperable if they are not fixed as quickly as possible.

Modifications of a minor nature highlight how stable the WordPress platform is. Minor updates are typically made available within a couple of weeks of a major release, and despite this, they are able to fix 29 bugs in the Core and 21 bugs in the block editor. That’s a lot of testing and tweaking to make sure that the most recent version of WordPress, as well as all of the versions that came before it, are operating as smoothly as they possibly can.

The level of care and maintenance that goes into minor updates shows why WordPress is still the platform of choice for so many small businesses and many, many bloggers.

You can review a summary of the key updates in this release by reading the RC1 announcement.

The next major release will be version 6.2 planned for 2023.

If you have sites that support automatic background updates, the update process will begin automatically.

You can download WordPress 6.1.1 from WordPress.org, or visit your WordPress Dashboard, click “Updates”, and then click “Update Now”.
